I have a few friends that have had babies recently and didn't find it necessary to capture one of the most important moments of theirs lives professionally, instead they relied on the point and shoot camera or even worse, the smart phone camera.

My first child, Rose Hart, was born back in December and it was hands down the most amazing moment of my life, seeing her precious little face for the first time was mind blowing.

Having worked with Stacey at LaCoursiere Photography for our maternity pictures, it was a no brainier after seeing her other baby photo sessions, that she would be the one to do Rose's first photo shoot.

Stacey also had a baby around the same time, and we were praying that it wouldn't be a problem and she would still be able to do the photos.  As it turned out, she was, and we are so happy with the results.

If you have a baby on the way and you're on the fence about getting professionally done photos, hopefully this list will help you make the right decision and get the pictures!

    Creativity

Taking good pictures is an art and having a professional photographer with a trained eye and the creativity to visualize a beautiful unique photo is worth the extra cost. Stacey came with props and photo ideas that she wanted to do with Rose, for instance in this shot, Stacey prepared some fake plastic roses and knew exactly what she wanted to do with the shot. Getting Rose to cooperate was another thing, I think Rose went "number two" on the roses if I remember right, but Stacey remained patient and eventually got the picture, and it looks great!

    Time

If you're having your first baby, you may not realize how little time you're about to have. You're not going to have time to take quality pictures or maybe take any pictures at all unless someone is visiting or maybe when your new little bundle of joy is sleeping you might be able to snap a few pictures, but to be honest taking pictures or video was the last thing on my mind the first week or so. Making an appointment and knowing that time is coming is comforting and it allows you to concentrate on other things, like enjoying time with your new son or daughter, and that is priceless.

    Quality

I guarantee that you won't be able to get a nice quality, frame-able picture from your smart phone, go ahead and use any phone or any app, it just won't happen. Additionally, point and shoot cameras have come along way and are great for day to day picture taking and 75% of the time you'll be happy with the results, but for those big occasions, oh like being BORN, you want to be 100% sure that you're getting the best pictures. This goes with the photo printing as well, getting pictures printed at Walgreens or Walmart or any online service like Snapfish won't even compare, trust me I've done my homework on this, to ensure your pictures look the best they can, have a professional, like LaCoursiere Photography print them. This is probably may favorite picture of my little angel, isn't she perfect?

    Safety

To get the best posed newborn pictures it's best to have them done within 10 days of birth, and of course there are several considerations when handling a newborn baby, you can just flop them around and pose them how you want, it is important to be safe and have patience, being an excellent mom herself, Stacey is well aware of the precautions to take when handling a newborn, she was incredibly careful and we were very comfortable letting her handle Rose during the session. Safety is especially an issue when doing pictures like this, it takes a special touch and some other photography tricks to accomplish this shot.

    Memories

And the most important reason why you need to get newborn pictures done by a professional is the memories, you'll have a hard time remembering how tiny and precious your son or daughter was. They grow SO fast, it's hard to believe looking at the picture below that she was this small just 6 months ago. You'll regret not investing in professional photos if you decide not to take my advice, and unless you have a time machine you won't have the chance to change your mind.
