‘Rogue One’ Is Not Getting a Sequel Because That Would Be Silly
Look, pretty much every Star Wars fan with functioning brain cells knows that there won’t be a sequel to Rogue One, but there’s an unspoken (and kind of dumb) rule in any setting which involves people asking questions and receiving answers about movies: If it can be asked, someone will ask it, especially if it’s a question with a really obvious answer — like “will there be a sequel to Rogue One?”
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: December 2016
Netflix may be giving us Captain America: Civil War on Christmas (and many more great additions next month), but there are also several titles expiring from the service in December, including — gasp — every season of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Okay, you might not be all that concerned about Kevin Sorbo’s biceps, but chances are there’s at least one or two things on this list of expiring movies and TV shows that you’ll probably want to watch before they leave Netflix next month.
‘Kong: Skull Island’ Trailer: All Hail the King
The first trailer for Kong: Skull Island debuted at Comic-Con back in July, offering a sneak peek that was more visually exciting and intriguing than we could have possibly hoped, clearly evoking classic war films like Apocalypse Now and The Thin Red Line — you know, but with a giant ape. After a week of teasers and images preparing us for Kong’s revival, a new official trailer has arrived online heralding a bigger, badder return for the legendary movie monster.
Fox Plots ‘Deadpool 3’ With X-Force Characters and ‘X-Men’ Reboot While ‘Gambit’ Remains on Hold
It may be difficult to believe in light of the 2016 election results, but there is other news still happening out there — even in the world of film, which offers a welcome distraction for many right now. And 20th Century Fox is serving up some pretty major news today, with a report that sheds light on the studio’s plans for the future of their expanding X-Men franchise, including Deadpool 3, X-Force and Gambit.
New Amazon Prime Instant Video Releases: November 2016
Amazon is giving you plenty of things to be thankful for in November, adding dozens of new film and television titles to their streaming library — would it be too much to ask for an add-on program that takes the agony out of deciding what to watch, though? For instance, it’s a heavy first world burden to choose between the first season of AMC’s The Night Manager and binge-watching all of the Rocky movies (yes, even Creed). Before you know it, you’ve already wasted half of your Saturday browsing before you end up rewatching The Addams Family for the billionth time.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Glen Powell Combine Powers to Bring ‘Captain Planet’ to the Big Screen
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk of a live-action Captain Planet movie: Sony was originally planning to bring the environmentalist superhero to the big screen, but now that the rights have lapsed, Paramount is in talks to snag them with a little help from real-life environmentalist superhero Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor is teaming up with Scream Queens star Glen Powell to develop a movie based on the ’90s cartoon series, but unlike other recent nostalgia cash-ins, this one has a positive message behind it.
Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Voice a Real-Life Jarvis for Mark Zuckerberg
With the advent of technological helpmates like Siri and Alexa, it’s probably not long before we’re all living in a version of reality that feels a lot like Spike Jonze’s Her — or Iron Man, if you’re Mark Zuckerberg. The Facebook founder has been working to build his own A.I. system similar to Tony Stark’s Jarvis, and now that he’s ready to give it a voice, one Marvel star is eager to provide his services.
15 Big Changes ‘The Girl on the Train’ Made From Page to Screen
A year before Paula Hawkins’ debut novel hit the stands, Universal secured the rights to what was sure to be the next ‘Gone Girl’ — a mystery thriller about three women and the disappearance that ties them together. Sure enough, ‘The Girl on the Train’ became a bestseller, and the film adaptation, which stars Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett, Rebecca Ferguson and Justin Theroux, hits theaters this weekend. As is typically the case, there are some notable differences between the book and film, but just how many changes were made from page to screen?
‘Jumanji’ Set Photo and Video Reveal the Difficulties of Movie Making (And Doritos)
It’s hard not to get a little bit excited for the new Jumanji movie — with a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan, they could be making a live-action movie about Thomas the Tank Engine and we’d still watch it. So while we wait for the first official trailer, Johnson and Co. have been keeping us up to date with a steady stream of behind-the-scenes photos and videos, the latest of which offers some insight into the difficulties of filming a big budget movie in Hawaii (spoiler: it’s not that difficult).
‘Beauty and the Beast’ Images Reveal First Look at Emma Watson’s Belle, Dan Stevens’ Beast
The wait for the full Beauty and the Beast trailer has reached agonizing levels, as Disney spent the last couple of months promoting the new 25th anniversary Blu-ray release of the classic animated film. Thankfully, we’ve gotten a few sneak peeks at the live-action redo via concept art, behind-the-scenes stills and a clip from a featurette on the aforementioned Blu-ray — and now we have a couple of new photos giving us our first look at Emma Watson’s Belle and Dan Stevens’ beast. But still no trailer. Sad trombone.
Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Hires ‘Arrival’ Cinematographer Bradford Young
If nothing else, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming Han Solo prequel / spinoff is going to look fantastic, as the duo have hired Bradford Young to serve as cinematographer. Okay, let’s be honest: With Lord and Miller on board and the incredibly charming Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, it’s almost guaranteed that the next Star Wars anthology film will be pretty entertaining — but now we know it’s also going to look really, really, really good.
Disney CEO Says Third ‘Star Wars Story’ Film Has a Writer, Teases Franchise Plans Beyond 2020
Lucasfilm has a pretty full slate between now and 2020, with one new Star Wars movie hitting theaters each year — and yes, that includes the mysterious third anthology film which once had Josh Trank attached to direct. We have plenty of Star Wars to keep us busy for the next few years, but according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Lucasfilm hasn’t forgotten about that third spinoff project, which is still in the works along with tentative plans for more franchise installments beyond 2020.
