See The Trailer For Netflix’s Barack Obama Biopic ‘Barry’
Netflix released the official trailer for their forthcoming movie Barry, a film that chronicles President Barack Obama’s time as a student at Columbia University.
The movie — which was well-received following its premiere at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival back in September — stars Australian actor Devon Terrell as the film’s titular character. Ashley Judd, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jenna Elfman, Jason Mitchell, Avi Nash and Ellar Coltrane fill out the rest of the cast.
Columbia University alum Vikram Gandhi directed the film after first approaching fellow student Adam Mansbach, in a bid to tell Obama's story. Mansbach agreed and wrote the movie's script, according to Deadline.
See the full synopsis for Barry below, taken from the trailer's YouTube description:
A young Barack Obama, known to his friends as “Barry,” arrives in New York City in the fall of 1981 to begin his junior year at Columbia University. In a crime-ridden and racially charged environment, Barry finds himself pulled between various social spheres and struggles to maintain a series of increasingly strained relationships with his Kansas-born mother, his estranged Kenyan father, and his classmates. Barry is the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later.
Barry drops on Netflix on December 16. Check out the trailer above in the meantime.
