Most people would agree it's hard to beat a good live music performance. Luckily, we here in the Northland have a lot of great opportunities to find a good live show that will fit just about anyone's musical taste. Where are some of these places? The DECC and Clyde Ironworks are two popular locations for bigger acts - but there are still several smaller ones that offer a more intimate atmosphere and great shows as well. Being there are so many, it is hard to pick which ones to feature; so we'll list a few to satisfy different tastes in music.

  • Beaner's Central

    Indie/Alternative Music

    Beaner's Central Concert Coffeehouse on Central Avenue in Spirit Valley is a quaint venue that features a variety of different acts, but tends to have mostly indie and alternative musicians featured. Most nights someone hits the stage; so regardless of what night of the week it is, you'll probably find some music to enjoy. This is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a mellow evening with a few friends.

  • Mr. D's Bar & Grill

    Rock/Dance-Pop Music

    Mr. D's in West Duluth has a different act on stage each each weekend, generally featuring rock acts and 80's and 90's cover groups. If you're looking to grab some food or a drink and take in some fun music on a Friday or Saturday night, Mr. D's is usually a good place to start looking.

  • Powerhouse Bar

    Rock/Country Music

    The Powerhouse Bar in Proctor features different live music every weekend, featuring mainly rock and country music acts. Bands usually play Friday and Saturday nights, giving you two chances to check out a group you enjoy. This is one of the ideal locations in the area to grab a beer with a few buddies and rock the night away.

  • Sir Benedict's Tavern

    Folk/Blues/Celtic Music

    Sir Benedict's Tavern on Superior Street in Duluth's East End offers and authentic English Pub atmosphere with a variety of different music several nights a week. A majority of the acts you'll find playing at Sir Benedict's play folk, blues, celtic, bluegrass, and other similar genres. It makes for a prime low-key location to join a friend for a pint and a good visit.

  • Carmody Irish Pub

    Blues/Jazz/Folk Music

    Carmody Irish Pub on Superior Street Downtown Duluth gives the full Irish pub experience, with live music ranging from blues to jazz, folk to indie rock and anywhere between various nights of the week. If you're looking to take in a good musical act and fine Irish beer or whiskey, Carmody is the place to start.

  • Ropers Saloon

    Country Music

    If you find yourself in the mood for country music, Ropers Saloon on Tower Avenue in Superior is the place to go. Along with a country atmosphere including a bull-riding machine and all, Ropers has country acts hitting the stage several nights a week.
