The City of Duluth is trying to increase the safety at its beaches with the help of a new electronic sign.

The new rip current warning sign is located at the “S” curve located at 12th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

The electronic sign will inform beach goers of current surf conditions, how the surf impacts their safety, as well as the location of beaches where lifeguards are present.

According to the Park Point Beach website, "rip currents are powerful channels of water moving away from shore. Unaware swimmers can find themselves being pulled out into the lake. Each year, numerous deaths across the Great Lakes are attributed to rip currents. Learn more about Rip Currents and how to escape them before going to the beach!"
