In a stunning announcement today, Disney said it is buying Lucasfilm Ltd., which is home to the 'Star Wars' franchise, from founder George Lucas in a deal worth $4.05 billion. And more importantly for this fan boy they announced that a new 'Star Wars' movie will be released.

'Star Wars Episode 7' will be released in 2015 with George Lucas on as a "creative consultant."  Lucas said in a statement, “It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers.”

Disney already has plans to do multiple films, according to Disney CEO Robert A. Iger, "In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the “Disney-Lucasfilm” brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long-term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years."

This is great news for 'Star Wars' fans, Disney will do a great job with the franchise and bring in the right writers and directors to relaunch the franchise for a whole new generation of fans. Plus look for Disney to incorporate more 'Star Wars' themed rides and attractions into their parks.
