Ed Sheeran Stresses the Importance of Behavior Modification on ‘Sesame Street’ [VIDEO]

Ed Sheeran brought his singer-songwriter skills to the most unlikely place: Sesame Street. He sings a song with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover and two miscellaneous muppets called “Two Different Worlds,” that’s meant to demonstrate the difference between how one acts at school versus how one acts at home, and how to modify one’s behavior accordingly.

The lyrics are as follows, “At home I can speak whenever I please / I can talk real loud and shoot the breeze / At school I raise my hand in the air when there’s something that I want to share,” which is truly a service to the general public. The Muppets sing along with him, which is only mildly jarring for a second. Everyone looks like they’re having a great time together, and that’s what matters.

The song sounds like something Ed Sheeran pulled straight out of a pile of B-sides and added Sesame Street friendly lyrics. While Ed’s regular material is quality stuff that really shows off his talent as a songwriter with an ear for slightly irregular vocal melodies, they’re not exactly kid-friendly songs. We’re not talking about content — when an entire generation learns the words to ‘N SYNC’s “Digital Getdown” and remains unfazed until they hit their teens, you realize content doesn’t matter as much. Ed’s material just doesn’t have that repetitive, major chord streak that has kids regurgitating the same lines over and over again. It’s not easy to remember. Then again, Sesame Street once had Macklemore on the show, so what do we know?

As we alluded to in the previous paragraph a la that Macklemore mention, Sesame Street has had quite a few guest celebrities sing on the show, from One Direction singing “What Makes U Useful” to Usher killing it with “ABC Song.” Check out the video of Ed above to see how he fits in to the Sesame Street celebrity hall of fame.
