Getting Fit for the New Year? Registration is Open for the 2013 Fitger’s 5K Run & Walk

If you've promised yourself you'd get into shape in 2013--here's the perfect race for you!  Registration is open for 2013's Fitger's 5K on April 20th.  Plenty of time to hit the gym and train to run or walk the 3.1 mile race.  Or maybe you like to have a few races under your belt before Grandma's Marathon in June.  Sign up now, because registration for this popular race fills up fast!

It's one of my favorite races of the year.  The weather is warming up, but not too warm.  You can't find a better course, through the streets downtown and Canal Park!  The Fitger’s 5K field and is limited to the first 1,800 entrants.

To sign up for the 24th annual event, runners and walkers should log on to GrandmasMarathon.com or YoungAthletesFoundation.com. The Fitger’s 5K registration process is conducted exclusively online.

It's a great race through downtown and Canal Park, and since the course does run along an open course, the use of headphones and other similar devices will not be allowed. So plan accordingly.

The entry fee is $25 plus a processing fee with all net proceeds benefiting the Young Athletes Foundation, a Grandma's Marathon program that focuses on the promotion and development of youth athletics throughout Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Lake and St. Louis Counties. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $500,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.

The race begins at 9 a.m. on East Superior Street in front of Fitger’s and travels through downtown Duluth and Canal Park before finishing back at Fitger’s.
