Goodbye Metrodome! After Nearly 10 Years, Vikings and State Come Together for a New Stadium to Open in 2015
Great news today for all Vikings fans as the Minnesota Senate passes a bill for a new Vikings stadium in Minneapolis, that was basically the last approval needed before the bill goes to Governor Dayton for an expected signature
The new state of the art $975 million stadium will be located in the same space the Metrodome sits now, 3/4 of the new stadium will be built before the Metrodome meets the wreaking ball and the Vikings play a season at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium while the new stadium is finished in time for the 2015 season.I can’t tell you how relieved I am that the Vikings are staying put for at least the next 30 years, I understand that it’s a sports team, but the thought of a Vikingsless Minnesota were really bringing me down. The Vikings are more than just a sports team to many, including myself and I couldn’t bear thinking of them in another state.
I have mixed emotions about the Metrodome, but mostly I think it’s a dump and can’t wait to see it go, but it will be bittersweet as I have MANY fond memories in that building from Vikings games, to the Twins World Series and even Monster Truck shows as a kid, but every time I try to pee or get a beer at the Dome, I remember why I hate it so much.
So, great work to the Governor, the Legislature, the city of Minneapolis and the Wilfs for working together and getting something done. Now lets go WIN a Super Bowl!!!
Let us sing!!
Skol Vikings, let’s win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock ’em . . . Sock ’em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You’ll hear us yell for more. . .
Skol, Vikings, let’s go!
