Highlights: Vikings Offense Comes to Life With Cassel, Without Peterson in 48-30 Win Over Philadelphia Eagles [PHOTO GALLERY]

Many fans are looking to put this season behind them, looking forward to May and the shot at drafting the next franchise quarterback. The players and coaching staff had other plans, making the most out of the second-to-last game at Mall of America Field one to remember.

The scene was set up as a sure win for the Eagles, who had won 5 in a row under a red-hot Nick Foles at quarterback. The high-impact Philly offense was sure to steamroll a Vikings defense being patched together by backups. While Foles threw for 428 yards and the Eagles scored 30 points, “The Matt Show” put up 48 points on an otherwise stingy Eagles defense that had allowed no more than 21 points all season long.

The Vikings Offense scored 48 points for the first time since the incredible 1998 season. The first game of that season was a 48-22 victory over the Chicago Bears in week 14, followed by a 50-10 thumping of the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 16.

Matt Cassel was efficient through much of the game, completing his first 9 pass attempts, eclipsing 150 yards before the first quarter ended. In all, Cassel was 26 of 35 for 382 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air (Jennings, Patterson). He also rushed for 19 yards and a third touchdown in the game.

Matt Asiata got his first NFL start in relief of the injured Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart. Beside scoring his first NFL touchdown in the game, Asiata went on to have a notable day both in a good and bad way. In the good column, Matt rushed for a total of three touchdowns on the day, which ties a team record for most rushing touchdowns in a game. He also set a team record for rushing attempts with 30 (previously held by Chuck Foreman with 28). On the flipside, his measly 1.7 yards per carry placed him in the record books among the lowest yards per carry in NFL history for a rusher that scored three touchdowns in the same game.

Greg Jennings had a career day, earning 163 receiving yards and a touchdown. It was Jennings’s first 100+ yard game with the Vikings, one of the best yardage days of his NFL career.

Cordarrelle Patterson became the 7th Vikings rookie to gain 400 yards receiving in a season, reaching 430 on the season yesterday. The list is topped by Randy Moss, who ended his rookie season with 1,313 yards. Other notable names in recent memory include Percy Harvin (#4 with 790 yards) and Nate Burleson at number 6 with 455 yards.

Shaun Prater wasn’t even aware he would be a starter until warmups before Sunday’s game. Chris Cook was out due to a knee injury, so Prater got the start, and made an impact in the game time by catching an interception and returning it 30 yards. It was his first career interception in the league.

The Vikings final home game is in two weeks against the Detroit Lions. This will mark the final game for the team at the Metrodome.
