We're going back to this week in 1998 look at Denzel Washington starring in a Spike Lee joint, fashion styles in '98, and Lauryn Hill's biggest hit.

Spike Lee's basketball drama 'He Got Game' starring Denzel Washington and NBA star Ray Allen came out this week and debuted at number one at the box office. The film was about a a top-ranked basketball prospect's father who must convince him to go to a certain college so his prison sentence gets reduced. Kevin Garnett's agent tried to get him for the role, but Lee wanted Allen instead. Allen never acted before and trained with an acting coach for eight weeks before filming.

Cashmere fabric and casual luxury style dominated fashion this year. Also tailored sportswear and separate loose clothing like pants, sweaters, and knee length skirts were big. It seems a lot of these styles are making a comeback too.

Lauryn Hill debuted her single 'Doo Wop (That Thing)'. Hill wrote and produced the song and it was her only number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and also opened up at number one becoming the tenth single to do so at the time. The song also won two Grammy's: Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Performance.
