Here’s Why You Probably Saw a Flurry of Dragonflies This Weekend
Sitting outside soaking up the last few nice days we noticed a ton of dragonflies hovering over the grass. Then we saw a bunch of dragonflies that were stuck together and then... ah yes. I see what the deal is now...
Apparently these warm September days has extended the mating season for them and they were taking full advantage of it. I know that our cat and two dogs enjoyed batting at them as they hovered just inches above the grass. I googled some info and found out that once Dragonflies are mature they only live for a few months, which may also explain the fanatical mating going on in our yard.
So as long as the warm weather holds out dragonflies are going to be getting busy, so let them be so they can continue to eat mosquitoes and other insects we can't stand.
