Julianne Moore Wins Best Actress at the 2015 Oscars [VIDEO]
Julianne Moore took home the award for Best Actress at the 2015 Oscars for her role in Still Alice. Her performance was an incredibly powerful, moving and illuminating portrayal of a woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It's a disease not often talked about or given much attention in the public eye, which is something Julianne highlighted during her acceptance speech.
She said, "I’m so happy, I’m thrilled actually, that we were able to hopefully shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease. So many people with this disease feel isolated and marginalized. And one of the wonderful things about movies is it makes us feel seen and not alone. People with Alzheimer's deserve to be seen so that we can find a cure."
It was a first time Oscar for Julianne, and she was clearly thrilled with the win, but went on to thank and recognize her fellow actresses also nominated. She said, "There's no such thing as best actress, as is evidenced by the performances of my fellow nominees."
She also brought some levity to her speech when she said, "I read an article that said that winning an Oscar could lead to living five years longer. If that's true, I'd really like to thank the Academy, because my husband is younger than me." There's nothing we love more than exhibiting a sense of humor when you're accepting an award that marks a serious milestone in your career. Congratulations, Julianne!
