Lady Gaga ‘Cringing’ Over Biopic
Lady Gaga is not psyched over the planned biopic about her life. In fact, the Mother Monster is said to be “cringing” about the project, worrying that she will be portrayed in a not-so-flattering light.
Last October, it was revealed that the Lifetime network, known for its women-centric programming and melodramas about women in peril, an image it has looked to change by acquiring shows like ‘Project Runway,’ had secured the rights to the biopic. That news further upped Lifetime’s “cool” quotient. Now, the film, dubbed ‘Fame Monster: The Lady Gaga Story,’ is being shopped to other possible networks.
No matter where it airs, Gaga is not happy about the TV movie. Life & Style reports that a friend said that she is “furious” and that “she’s cringing at the thought of her life being exposed on television.”
While the Mama Monster isn’t known for concealing things from the little monsters nor is she secretive about how she scratched and clawed her way to the top of the pop food chain and she embraces most publicity opportunities, her concern lies in the fact that she has no control over how she will be portrayed. She is petrified of looking needy! “Gaga doesn’t want it getting out because it will portray her as insecure and needy,” the source said.
The insider continued, “She wants to be seen as powerful and strong.”
Well, Gaga is powerful and strong. A TV biopic won’t dismantle that image, that’s for sure. But that doesn’t mean the filmmakers won’t take a little creative license with her Cinderella story.
The search is on for an actress to portray Stefani Germanotta. The insider said that producers “want a total unknown” to tackle the role of a lifetime. That makes sense, since a big name actress wouldn’t be able to fully immerse herself and we’d always be aware of the fact that it’s a known actress playing a known pop star.
Now that we think about it, Gaga herself would probably want to creatively direct a biopic about her life and make all the decisions about who plays her and how she comes across. That’s likely why she’s not stoked about this particular film.
