When Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast, Native New Yorker Lady Gaga took to Twitter about how upset she was that she couldn't be with her friends and family to help them through this difficult time due to her touring commitments (and about how she'll never watch "Grease" again.)  But now she's committed to help her hometown with a $1 million donation to the Red Cross. In a message on her LittleMonsters.com social networking site directed to "New York and the American Red Cross," Lady Gaga writes:

"Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today."

"New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion" and finishes by asking New York and the Red Cross to accept her gift on behalf of her parents and her younger sister."

"With our deepest gratitude, New York, for raising us.  Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours."
