Lake Superior Zoo via FaceBook

Starting in October the Lake Superior Zoo will be starting fun new education programs for kids, parents and families all month long.

All the programs require pre-registration and sure to be fun for all and don't forget Boo at the Zoo will be on October 10th (Jeanne and I will be there!) and 17th. The programs include:

Zoo Tots (Ages 2-3 and with an Adult) Monday October 5th 10:30am-11am

  • Through story time, activities, and animal encounters, toddlers enjoy learning about a different animal each visit. Zoo Tots is a great way for children to interact with each other as they learn about animals. Explore the zoo on your own after the program. No pre-registration necessary. Free for zoo members, $2 plus regular admission for nonmembers.

Cub Club (Ages 4-5 Drop-Off Program) Friday October 9th 10am-12pm

  • Designed for pre-school age children who are able to be successful in group programs without parent involvement. Children participate in games, interactive activities, role play and crafts. Explore the zoo, read stories and meet many animal friends! $13 members, $15 non-members.

Homeschool Explorers (Ages 6-10 Drop-Off Program) Thursday October 22nd 1pm-3pm

  • Explore science concepts using the outdoors as a classroom and live animals as teachers! All classes include touring the zoo, hands-on activities, and animal encounters. $13 members, $15 non-members.

Sunset Safari (Families with Children Ages 5+) Friday October 23rd 7pm-9:30pm

  • Learn about our nocturnal critters with a hands-on animal program, games, and a unique night-time zoo tour. End the evening by enjoying s’mores around a campfire! $12 per person.

Homeschool Adventures (Ages 11-17 Drop-Off Program) Thursday October 29th 1pm-3pm

  • Learn about zoo keeping and animal conservation by participating in the care of zoo animals. Students will get to know a different species every session, learn about its care, and spend the rest of class helping out the zookeepers. $13 members, $15 non-members.

I'm excited for these programs, I just wish they were around when I was a kid. For more information, how to register and a complete list on the fall programs, visit or call 218-730-4500 ext. 205.
