We are a hearty crew here in the Northland, with up to 8 inches of snow predicted this past weekend many of us just laughed it off. All part of the deal living in Northern Minnesota, but for many it is a hassle to get around.

Cue the mountain bike, yep that's right I saw not only one but two this past weekend. The first guy I saw was in the West Duluth area during the height of the storm. He was doing his best to make it through the snow but not much luck. At one point I saw him hop off the bike and kick the tires in an attempt to get the snow off.

I understand the concept of it, when I was in College that was my sole mode of transportation, but in the winter I stored the thing. Then to top it off on Monday in a different part of town I saw someone else trudging away on a bike, again to no avail.

Is it just me or does this seem like a really tough way to get around in the snow? I do remember clear as day when I first moved to Duluth some 13 years ago, I was driving down Lake Avenue and out of the corner of my eye I saw a kid snowboarding down the sidewalk, I could not believe my eyes. But, I guess it goes along with the old saying If you can't beat 'em join 'em.

So the moral of the story is Winter is here for the next 4 months or so. and unless you plan on moving to Florida, the snow and cold is all part of the deal.and we need to adapt in which ever way we see fit!
