The annual tradition of Lincoln Park Middle School students participating in International Walk to School Day continued today, as hundreds of excited students walked their way from Wheeler Field to the middle school Wednesday morning.

Students sported special t-shirts and wristbands to commemorate the morning's activity, which culminated in a big group photo on the football field outside the school. MIX 108 had the opportunity to be a part of the festivities, invited back again this year to play music and welcome students as they arrived. It was a lot of fun to be involved in the high-energy event!

International Walk to School Day is a worldwide event that involves communities in over 40 countries, with students either walking or biking to school. The inaugural Walk to School Day was in 1997, growing each year. The day is designed to create awareness for safe routes to school as well as physical fitness and community awareness. This marks the third year Lincoln Park Middle School has participated in the day, and organizers say they are excited for next year.
