The last time that 2020 Presidential hopeful Lindsay Dee "Lilo" Lohan released a song — aside from her spoken word cameo on Duran Duran's "Danceophobia" on last year's Paper Gods — was in 2008 with "Bossy," her first No. 1 on the Billboard US Club charts and, still, one of the greatest dance-pop songs of the past decade. (FIGHT ME ABOUT IT.)

In the brief, exhilarating, Abercrombie & Fitch-scented time that Lindsay Lohan dabbled in pop stardom and warred with foe Hilary Duff for Aaron Carter's heart, she gave us two amazing pop records — 2004's Speak and 2005's emotionally searing A Little More Personal (Raw). Rumors swirled of a third studio album around the time of "Bossy" — then commonly thought to be called Spirit In The Dark — but, uh...life happened.

She's since teased us with the idea of returning to music for years — even Instagramming in the recording studio in 2013, allegedly working on "EDM"-inspired music at one point. And after all this time...nada. Unless the Fornarina commercial counts as something. It does in my world. Click. Flash. Wow.

But! A thing happened yesterday (June 22) that provided the slightest, tiniest morsel of hope that the "To Know Your Name" singer might possibly, maybe reaffirm her pop princess status.

During a Mean Girls Synaptop live chat yesterday (sure?), Lindsay and co-stars Daniel Franzese (yes, Damian) and Rajiv Surendra (yes, Kevin Gnapoor) fielded questions from fans — and one blessed Lohan disciple bravely asked The Question.

"I have to record another album for Universal/Motown. And I will," she calmly explained before launching into a weird, meandering caveat involving her sister, "Lohan Holiday" chanteuse Aliana Lohan.

"With that being said, my sister is signed to EMI. She's recording a record, and out of respect for her and her true career choice — which is all she wants to do is make music, and her voice is like...Etta James meets Adele — I want to respect her in that lane and stay in my lane working with children and creating films and writing and directing."

"I will sing in my films, but I want her to sing in them as well. So, as much as I want to sing every day, I don't want my sister to hate me—" she started to explain further before RAJIB KEVIN GNAPOOR SURENDRA INTERRUPTED TO SING "DRAMA QUEEN (THAT GIRL)" AT HER.

"I want her to sing with my friend Parson James at my birthday. I'll be 30 this year, and I want her to sing at it," Lilo went on, casually shouting out one of our very first PopCrush Presents acts.

"I'm scared to ask her. She's so kind of nervous about it, but she's really good. She has a Soundcloud song called 'The Devil Inside.' She has a beautiful voice and she's a beautiful person. She's a Buddhist and she's really spiritual and I just really admire her."

Side note: Can anyone find this "The Devil Inside" on Soundcloud? Because I can't.

And then, to top it all off, the real doozy: "I love making music and I write every day, and I will write for, like, the hope of all of us, because I think it's important."

THE HOPE OF ALL OF US.

While promising, it would be emotionally irresponsible to put too much stock into Lohan's words. She is not, historically, the best with making promises. We're all tired of rumors starting.

But a label deal is a label deal, and she's still got one more to serve up to Universal/Motown. (According to her, anyway.) All we can do now is pray that she follows through — for the hope of all of us.

For now, let us revisit just a few of Lindsay Lohan's best moments on record thus far.
