Madonna Might Be Sued Over Swastika Stunt

Madonna drew controversy — nothing new in her world as she has been a magnet for it over the course of her entire career — at her MDNA tour opener in Tel Aviv. She caused a buzz for depicting French National Front leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika superimposed on her forehead.

Madge was seemingly suggesting that Le Pen is a Nazi. It’s a dangerously loaded symbol that means a lot of things to a lot of people, especially in Israel! Now, Madge has been threatened with legal action by Le Pen if she keeps the image (which was projected onto screens during her performance of ‘Nobody Knows Me’), when she reaches France.

Le Pen said she will sue the singer if she tries to execute the stunt again on French soil. According to The Daily Mail, Le Pen, 43, said, “We understand how old singers who need to get people talking about them go to such extremes.”

Wow, Le Pen just verbally b—- slapped Madonna and called her “old.” Madge is only 10 years older than Le Pen; she will turn 54 in August and still looks gorgeous. Also, Madonna has always been a cultural lightning rod, so this is not an “old” singer trying something “new” to generate interest. Madonna is always looking to ignite chatter and stir the pot.

Regardless, Le Pen continued, “If she does that in France, we’ll be waiting.” Yikes!

Madge is scheduled to play in Paris and on the Riveria in France next month. So she’s been forewarned — sorta like her nemesis Lady Gaga, who dealt with threats from an extremist religious sect, which forced the cancellation of her sold out show in Indonesia.

For those not politically in-the-know, the National Front is a right wing party and the third biggest in France. Le Pen took over the presidency from her controversial father Jean-Marie Le Pen, who is a polarizing figure due to his history of being a holocaust denier and an anti-Semite, last year.

The party has been marred by anti-Semitic and racist associations, yet Madonna’s swastika use reportedly offended its entire membership. “We are not a Nazi party, and object to being depicted as such,” a source within the party said. “If you accuse the National Front of being anti-Semitic and racist then you accuse a fifth of the French people of being anti-Semitic and racist. If Madonna repeats this slur in France then she will certainly be taken to court.”

The party’s lawyer is reportedly looking into whether or not it would pursue legal action at this point.

While Le Pen has reportedly softened her party’s extremist views, she has pledged to limit Muslim immigration and Islamic culture in her country, which could be what prompted Madonna to create the image that she did. One thing is for sure: She caused a lot of conversations about a hot button issue.

Will Madonna alter her staging? Should she? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
