Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth will officially be the stage for Hockey Day Minnesota 2016. During a press event held at Bayfront Thursday morning, officials from the Minnesota Wild, FOX Sports North, headline sponsor Wells Fargo and other statewide and local organizers unveiled plans for this winter's event.

Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 will be Saturday, February 6, 2016. Television coverage of the day will begin at 9 am on FOX Sports North with the first game of the day will be Duluth Denfeld hosting Section 7A rival Eveleth-Gilbert. Game 2 will feature a rematch of the 2015 Class AA Championship as Duluth East hosts Lakeville North. This will mark the first appearance on Hockey Day Minnesota for Denfeld and the third appearance for East.

The games will be played on a sheet of ice that will be constructed in front of the pavilion stage area where many people gather each summer for concert events. Special coordination efforts had to be made with Bentleyville in order to make sure the area was cleared in time for prep for Hockey Day after the holiday tour of lights.

Plans for a college matchup following the high school games exist, however details on who and where are still undetermined. The Minnesota Wild will cap the day off with a road game against the St. Louis Blues at 7pm on FSN.

This year marks the 10th Hockey Day Minnesota, originating with a game played on Baudette Bay in 2007. Since then, Hermantown and Grand Rapids have been among host cities for the event. Duluth Mayor Don Ness and Duluth's Local Organizing Committee member Pat Heffernan expressed excitement for Duluth's successful bid to host the festivities, with hockey being so deeply ingrained in Duluth and the surrounding communities.
