After months of speculation, it turns out that despite numerous reports and cast/crew testimonials saying otherwise, Stars Hollow's resident gourmet chef Sookie St. James will be returning to the proverbial Gilmore Girls kitchen after all. That's right, fan: Your beloved Melissa McCarthy is officially a go for the forthcoming Netflix reboot!

During an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing Friday April 8, The Boss actress confirmed that after much back-and-forth, the stars (hollow) have finally aligned and she is indeed going to be reprising her role as Lorelai's adored best friend and business partner for the highly awaited four-movie revival.

"There has something I’ve been asked about so, so many times, and it hasn’t worked out. They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls, which is a show that was near and dear to my heart for four years, and we could not get those schedules to work," McCarthy told DeGeneres, adding, "There was a whole thing, and then I was going to be out of the country, and literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it, and I am so excited! They’re going to be amazing."

The exciting news comes less than a month after McCarthy told E! she didn't think she'd be returning to the show. "I didn't actually get asked to do it," she said. "But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was." Prior to that, the actress also tweeted that "sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow."

Luckily, the powers-that-be must have pulled some strings to accommodate McCarthy's increasingly packed schedule, and she couldn't be happier to make it all work out in the end. "Amy Sherman Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it, and I'm very happy to go back to Stars Hollow."
