Listen to M.I.A.’s Amy Winehouse Tribute Song, ’27′ [AUDIO]

A mere day after the death of singer Amy Winehouse, rapper M.I.A. released the haunting ’27,’ an unfinished demo that loosely pays tribute to the late star.
The track, which was originally supposed to be released on M.I.A.’s 2010 mixtape, ‘Vicki Leekx,’ tells the story of a person who commits suicide after a long addiction to drugs and alcohol.
The lyrics read:
You blew that money on a mountain of drugs / And staged yourself a bed in / A month later when I popped in / You’re still high but the winter set in … Your friendship did mean [somethin'] / But you left me for nothin’ / When I left, you befriended a rope and I found you both were hangin’.
M.I.A. posted a link to the song on Twitter last Saturday, with the message, “I recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out. its a unfinished demo … R.I.P A.M.Y.”
The song draws reference to music’s ’27 Club,’ a collection of troubled musicians who died at the age of 27, which includes Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin.
