The city of Minneapolis is  following suit with some other major metropolitan cities that have been suing "Parklets" for many years. Obviously in warmer climates like San Fransisco these can be set up year round, but for obvious reasons they are temporary in the Twin Cities. So, what is a Parklet?

A Parklet is Built into the street taking up two parking spaces and offers a sitting area that is an extension of the sidewalk. In Minneapolis the business that the Parklet is in front of is responsible for the upkeep and cleaning of that particular one. Duluth had one this summer on Superior Street in Downtown Duluth. I think that this is a great idea, since the summer season is so short, and the city of Minneapolis plans to move them around to different business each year.

Check out the time lapse video below on how these temporary oasis are put together.
