Minnesota Vikings Kicker Blair Walsh Wins NFC Special Teams Player of the Week Honors for the Third Time

Minnesota Vikings rookie kicker Blair Walsh was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking his team into the playoffs on a last second game-winning field goal.

Beside the 29-yard game-winning field goal as time expired in the game against the Green Bay Packers, Walsh hit field goals from 54 yards and 37 yards. His game-winner is the second of the season, with the other coming in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Metrodome.

Walsh is the first rookie since Devin Hester in 2006 to win the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award three times in one season. His other award-winning performances came in in Week 1 against the Jaguars and Week 15 agains the St. Louis Rams.

Over the course of his rookie season, Walsh was 10 for 10 on 50+ yard field goals - which is an NFL record. He led the NFL in field goals with 35 and was 4th in scoring with 141 points. One other record of note, his 92.1 field goal percentage is the best performance in NFL history for a rookie kicker.
