Stellar: MTV has officially unveiled its first promo for the 2017 Video Music Awards, and the clip's hitting the cosmos with nods to iconic Britney Spears and Madonna sets.

The 34th annual VMAs, which will air August 27, is playing up to its emblem — the Moonman trophy — in the new clip, which plays to a futuristic recording of The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" (the 1981 song was coupled with the first video MTV ever aired). As the camera drifts around space and the moon's surface, viewers can spot the snake from Britney's "I'm A Slave 4 U" performance in 2001 and the wedding dress from Madonna's 1984 "Like a Virgin" show.

The VMAs will broadcast from The Forum in Inglewood, California, for the second time — the show last called it home in 2014. The nominees and host have yet to be announced, but a tagline that reads "Brace for Impact" currently headlines the show's official website.
