New College Course Studies The Lyrics of Jay-Z

“If you’re havin’ girl problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a…” very educational huh? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Georgetown University is offering a new class called “Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z”, the class available this semester studies the social commentary behind Jigga’s lyrics, touching on racial/gender identity, sexuality, capitalism and economic inequality.
The course is taught by professor, author, radio DJ and television host Michael Eric Dyson, he told the Associated Press, “It just happens to have an interesting object of engagement in Jay-Z — and what better way to meet people where they are?” Dyson said. “It’s like Jesus talking to the woman at the well. You ask for a drink of water, then you get into some theological discussions.” ummmmm, whatever you say dude.
Get out your pencils and paper class, and take some notes….
