The public parking lot on the lake side of the 500 block of Canal Park Drive or the one right across the street from Grandma's restaurant,  has been renamed the “Lighthouse Lot.” It was formerly called the “Marine Museum Lot” or the “Canal Park Lot.”

According to the city, "the new name highlights the unique location of the facility and serves to differentiate it from the nearby Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center, which is not affiliated with the parking lot."

The lot now features a pay-by-phone option and a gateless pay-by-space system. The pay station accepts coins(nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar coins), cash ($1, $2, $5, and $10 bills), and Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit and debit cards. Parking fees are $2 for the first 2 hours and $1 for each additional hour. The maximum parking fee is $10 for 12 to 24 hours.
