One of the four teams from the Twin Ports area contending for a spot in the 2014 Minnesota State Boys Hockey Tournament was knocked out of contention in the Section 5A semifinals last night.

On the road in Lindstrom, on Chisago Lakes' home ice; the Wildcats pounced on the Rails early and didn't let up. Chisago Lakes senior Brandon Gillespie netted a pair of goals early in the game, followed by a third goal from Wildcats junior Joe Kimlinger just short of the 11 minute mark in the opening period.

Proctor used the second period to rally from the 0-3 deficit, with senior Shane Gould scoring a power play goal in the opening minutes and Brodie Nordquist netting a second goal midway through the second period to bring the game to within one goal, at 3-2. The third period was all Chisago Lakes, with Zak Lambrecht scoring a Wildcats power play goal and Trevor Lushanko finding the back of the net late in the period to give a final score of 5-2 in favor of Chisago Lakes.

The remaining Twin Ports hopefuls for the State Tournament include Hermantown and Duluth Marshall, who will compete in the Section 7A Championship on Wednesday night; and Duluth East, who will compete against Elk River on Thursday night in the 7AA Championship. We will be broadcasting both of these games on air at 560 AM on your radio and online (here) from AMSOIL Arena. Pregame for both games is at 7:15, with the puck drop following at 7:30.
