NBA.com is reporting that the Minnesota Timberwolves have fired President of Basketball Operations David Kahn, with the intent of replacing him with former Timberwolves Head Coach Flip Saunders.

Saunders has reportedly been in negotiations with the team on a contract that could run through the 2017-2018 season and could be worth more than $9 million over those five years. Saunders and Wolves owner Glen Taylor have been meeting in recent weeks, with Taylor confirming in March that Saunders was a member of a group that had interest in purchasing the team.

David Kahn's exit is marked with lots of controversy, including an 89-223 record during his time with the team. His contract currently features a 2013-2014 option that will not be used.

Saunders's first experience with the team offered a coaching record of 411-326 over 9 and a half seasons with the franchise. He also led the team to eight consecutive playoff appearances.
