Are you ready for a ‘Rush Hour 4?’ Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker might be, according to ‘Rush Hour’ producer Arthur Sarkissian, said they’re ramping up for a fourth chapter and are about ready to bring a screenwriter on board to beef up the story.

Sarkissian admits it’s more than just putting Chan and Tucker in another city and having them bicker, saying, “I don’t want that. I want something new.” So do we. Action franchises that made it as far as a fourth film include ‘Lethal Weapon’ and ‘Die Hard,’ and the fourth chapters of those franchises left a little to be desired. Sarkissian spoke to CraveOnline and said:

I’m trying to do it closer to how I did ‘Rush Hour 1.’ More down to earth. More gritty. Introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was. I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit.

In looking for a series to compare his ‘Rush’ film to, Sarkissian actually singles out the ‘Fast and the Furious’ series, saying:

They kept the characters. They took them and they put them in a whole different world. They put them in the world of a heist movie and it worked. … Maybe Chris is now married. Maybe Jackie is married to Octavia Spencer. I don’t know. Married to Chris’ cousin. They live in Shanghai. Chris goes out to visit them. … I want something energetic.

It does sound like Sarkissian is spitballing, but that’s how the ball usually gets rolling in cases like this. As for whether or not director Brett Ratner would be invited back to the party, the producer keeps the door open by saying, “He’s more than welcome to do it, but he’s got to do it in the right way.”
