It was a cold morning, and there was plenty of fresh snowfall, but the Fitger's 5K still went on strong, and with a course record broken in the process.

Minneapolis native Joe Moore, 29, set a course record and claimed the men’s division title at Saturday’s 24th annual Fitger’s 5K, finishing in 14 minutes, 53 seconds. The previous fastest time was Jeremy Polson in 2002 with a time of 15:08.

Duluth’s Morgan Place, 23, won the women’s race with a time of 17:53.

A record 1,926 people registered, and an unofficial total of 1,522 finishers (1,420 runners, 102 walkers) completed the 3.1-mile race.

All net proceeds–about $20,000–from the Fitger’s 5K benefit the Young Athletes Foundation.
