Which Coaches Will Appear on Season 5 of ‘The Voice?’
When Shakira and Usher first joined the judging panel, filling the big shoes and big red chairs of Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, it was because Aguilera and Green were going on tour and working on their own projects. But are Aguilera and Green actually coming back this fall?
Reports from NBC's Summer Press Day (via Zap2It) say that the network wouldn't comment on the panel, possibly because they're not quite sure themselves of what's going to happen -- and the current lineup may be around to stay. And while Green and Aguilera had a fun chemistry with their fellow judges Adam Levine and Blake Shelton (even when Levine and Aguilera were at odds), Shelton and Levine love having Ush and Shaki around, too.
Levine explained, "We were certainly curious to see what the chemistry would be when the new guy and gal came, but I think that we're beyond happy ... It's obvious, too, if you watch the show that there's a lot of chemistry."
"I was a little bit nervous just because I knew how well the show was doing," Shelton admitted. "It was beating the odds, you know? It was a music talent show in a world where there's a lot of those. We knew we had something that worked and I never met either one of these two before. One thing you can't fake is chemistry. I'll be damned if it's not as strong as it's ever been with the four of us, you know? And I love that; I'm proud of that."
Green is currently promoting his new album and will perform on 'The Voice' this month, so it appears his door is wide open for a return when he's ready. Aguilera initially left to promote 'Lotus,' but hasn't been doing much of that.
Still, Aguilera was happy to have such a talented fill-in with Shakira. “It’s always girl power,” she said in March. “I’m very much in support of any woman who’s willing to take on all this testosterone at once and do it 24/7! I had three seasons of it and I needed a moment away … to feel this moment.”
Time will tell whose chairs will turn this fall, but with a new baby and the structure and PR that a TV show provides, we wouldn't be surprised to see Shakira and Usher want stick around ... especially if the price is right.
