‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Is Already Filming, Casting Almost Done

Although it was recently revealed that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ would begin filming in Morocco this month, Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn has dropped a bit of a surprise on all of us: the film is already shooting. But the even more surprising revelation is that most of the casting is already complete. Say what?

Seems that Disney and J.J. Abrams are keeping things tight under wraps regarding ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ — perhaps tighter than we thought. Horn was interviewed by THR as part of their Hollywood Masters series, and when asked about ‘Star Wars,’ Horn revealed that film had already begun shooting and admitted that there had been some struggles with committing to the screenplay, which needed to be perfect.

Horn also said that the film has selected most of its cast already: “We have a lot of them [in place]. We’re just not completely done yet.” The only official casting announcement made thus far has been the signing of ‘Girls‘ star Adam Driver as the film’s villain. Jesse Plemons and John Boyega’s names have been circulating for a while as possible cast members, while last month, sources said Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o was close to a deal to join the film. Perhaps Abrams and Disney are waiting to complete their casting before making any further announcements.

We’re actually sort of excited about the idea that the film is already moving further along than previously thought, and the casualness with which Horn just sort of announces that hey, we’re already almost done casting and we’re already shooting this thing. That’s comforting to know, since the film hits theaters next December.
