I've been trying to convince my husband we need a German shepherd.  I thought maybe watching one win "Best in Show" at the 2012 Westminster Dog Show would help convince him that it's our time.

Alas, an "alien footstool," Malachy the Pekingese was best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The 4-year-old beat out a Dalmatian, German shepherd (Captain Crunch--my favorite,) Doberman pinscher, Irish setter, a Kerry blue terrier and wire-haired dachshund at Madison Square Garden.

The champion at Westminster wins a coveted silver bowl, but NO prize money. Instead, the prestige of this title lasts a lifetime for any owner, and brings a wealth of opportunity in breeding potential.

This was the fourth time a Peke won at Westminster, and the first since 1990.
