The Average American Spends over $1,089 a year on Take Out Food
I shudder at the thought of how much money we waste in our house getting take out food, or eating at a restaurant. I admit I hate to cook and when the kids are not with us for the week, we tend to go really overboard because it is just the two of us.
The statistics from this survey are pretty alarming and quite the wake up call, since we are easily way over the average. According to Butterball.com 1,000 people were surveyed and 1/4 of people said they order in at least 1x a week and one in 20 people admit to ordering online every one or two days.
Of course everyone's situation is different If you are single, If you have kids, the age of your kids etc. but no doubt eating out or online is expensive and more times than not, it is not as healthy as a meal we cooked at home.
When I was a kid, we would rarely go out to eat, and on occasion we would get fast food but not very often, In my house we are totally guilty of the fast food meal, but we try to limit that to 1x a week.
The ironic thing is more than half of the people surveyed say they enjoy eating at home more than going out. I know for my family we need to set a better example for our kids by eating home more and it will definitely help the household budget.
