A week ago, the Denfeld Hunters won one of their biggest games in school history as they beat Duluth East 5-4.They returned to that same ice a week later and posted another 5 goals on Tuesday.

This time the 9th ranked Hunters beat 14th ranked Hibbing-Chisholm 5-1 and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.

The Hunters are now 11-4 overall and will play Cloquet-Esko-Carlton at Amsoil Arena on Saturday afternoon.  Prior to that game, Superior will play Duluth East at 12:30pm.

The Hunters Levi Talarico got the first two goals of the game and the game winner and Zach Thompson got the win in the nets for the Hunters.

That game was on ESPN560 WEBC and My9.

Duluth East was on FS North on Tuesday as they beat White Bear Lake 4-3.

In other boy’s high school hockey on Tuesday, Superior with the surprise win of the night with a 5-4 victory at Hermantown.  Grand Rapids and C-E-C skated to a 5-5 overtime tie. In other games International Falls topped Eveleth-Gilbert 6-1 and Virginia-MIB beat North Shore 5-4.

Thursday Hibbing-Chisholm will face Grand Rapids.  Then on Saturday, the Bluejackets will face Eagan in Hockey Day Minnesota and Grand Rapids will face Benilde-St.Margaret’s.  In the girl’s game, Hibbing-Chisholm will face Grand Rapids-Greenway.

In high school boy’s basketball Tuesday, Lakeview Christian beat Mesabi East 106-49.

In men’s college hockey on Tuesday night at Lakeview Arena St. Scholastica beat Northland College 6-2.

The UMD men’s hockey team set a new attendance record on Saturday night in their win over Michigan Tech.  The Bulldogs drew 6,829 setting a new school record.  Amazing, considering that the students are still on Christmas break.

Head Coach Scott Sandelin was also impressed, he said,

“It was awesome, to hear at the end of the night that it was a record crowd especially since our students are still on break it’s great and give kudos to the people that came it’s always fun when the place is packed liked that; secondly they saw an entertaining hockey game, the positive thing is that we came out on top and it was a fun environment and hopefully we can get more like that.”

UMD swept Michigan Tech winning 1-0 on Friday and 5-4 on Saturday night in front of the big crowd.

Big Ten men’s basketball, Wisconsin beat Indiana 64-59 on Tuesday night.

The UMD women’s basketball team topped St. Cloud State on Tuesday night, 57-50.  The UMD men’s basketball team fell to St. Cloud 81-66.  Both were conference games at Romano Gym at UMD.

And in the NBA the L.A. Lakers topped the Milwaukee Bucks 104-88. Kobe with 31 points in the victory.

In the NFL, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has said he will miss the upcoming 2013 Pro Bowl citing several lower body injuries as the reason.  Center Jeff Saturday and Linebacker Clay Matthews were the other Green Bay players selected to play in the Pro Bowl.

Rodgers and the Packers lost to the Niners in the NFC playoffs last week.

Speaking of Green Bay, for the second straight season, Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy and his staff will coach the NFC team at the NFL Pro Bowl.  The Packers coaches also coached the 2007 NFC Pro Bowl as well.

This years Pro Bowl is set for January 27th in Hawaii and the game will be on NBC.
