Tom’s Notes: UWS Yellowjacket Women’s Basketball Nationally Ranked, Clydesdales Hockey Lose League Membership + More
For the first time in the Don Mulhern coaching era at UW-Superior, the Yellowjacket women’s basketball team in nationally ranked. Yep, #25.
This is Mulherns’ 7th year at UWS and 25th year as a basketball coach.
The Yellowjackets are 15-3 overall this year and 7-2 in league play and find themselves in the 25th spot in the D3hoops poll.
Sophomore guard, Sally Linzmeier says more wins are coming this year. She said, “Most definitely and we look forward to keep going looking for home playoff games and that conference championship.” She is a native of Valders, Wisconsin and is the teams leading scorer with 17 points per game. She also averages 6 rebounds per contest for UWS.
Linzmeier played high school football into the 9th grade and doesn’t shy away from contact on the basketball floor as well. She said, “We have a different chemistry this year compared to last year more of a pushing and a run and gun flow I would say, because we like to use the four guards and the post and like to run.”
They are also in 1st place in the WIAC heading into their road game Wednesday in Eau Claire. The Yellowjackets beat the Bluegolds earlier this year at Mertz Mortorelli Gym 73-65. The UWS men will host Eau Claire Wednesday night at 7pm in Superior.
Last week the team made history by earning their 14th win the most in a single season in school history by beating River Falls.
The UWS women have won five in a row and five of the last seven games are on the road. The Jackets are a perfect 8-0 at home this year.
