The University of Wisconsin-Superior will honor the career accomplishments of UWS alumnus Doug Sutherland tomorrow (Saturday, March 31) with a brunch event at Barker's Island Inn starting at 10:00 am. Tickets are available in advance through the UWS Alumni Website for $10, or will be available at the door.

Sutherland was recently named to the WIAC All-Time Football Team and has been selected as a member of the inaugural class of the WIAC Hall of Fame. He played four seasons with the Yellowjackets, earning several honors in a UWS uniform. WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner will be at this weekend's event to speak about Sutherland and his many career achievements.

After college, the New Orleans Saints drafted Sutherland in the 1970 NFL draft. He joined the Minnesota Vikings in 1971, where he served as part of the infamous "Purple People Eaters" defense through 1980. He ended his career in Seattle after playing the 1981 season with the Seahawks.

During his 12 years in the league, he played in Super Bowls VIII, IX and XI. Sutherland was also named one of the 50 Greatest Minnesota Vikings by the team in 2010 for the squad's 50th anniversary.
