Have you ever noticed when a politician is signing an important document how they always use so many pens? Is it so they do not run out of ink mid signature? Nope.

It is a Washington tradition to use many pens when signing a historical document, because the pens themselves become a historical artifact. Then whoever the person that signed that bill be it the President of the United States or a Governor can than give these pens to people who may have contributed in some way to this document.

Yesterday was a historic day for Minnesota as Governor Mark Dayton signed the same sex marriage legislation bill, making Minnesota the 12'th state in the U.S. to allow same sex marriage. I lost count how many pens he used, but must say a historic day indeed!
