NBC’s ‘Will and Grace’ Revival Renewed for Another Season

Will and Grace Revival Renewed Season 2
NBC

Every revival brings with it the inevitable question of additional seasons, and NBC is addressing its Will & Grace future early. Ahead of the long-awaited revival in September, NBC is already committing to a second (technically tenth) season.

NBC made the announcement ahead of its Will & Grace panel at the TCA press tour, albeit without any details beyond a thirteen-episode order. That’s up three episodes from the original revival’s ten, which itself was expanded to twelve episodes, and has now been increased yet again to sixteen (so twenty-nine episodes overall).

Also worth noting is that the new run of episodes will completely ignore the eighth season and series finale, which had Will and Grace raising children separately and not reconnecting until decades later. The new episodes will also attempt to incorporate as diverse a cast as possible, as Debra Messing noted they could “finish the alphabet” by expanding the original series’ focus on “LGB” issues.

Stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes are of course returning, with creators Max Mutchnik and David Kohan joining series director James Burrows. The idea came about after the viral success of September’s “Vote Honey” video, which saw the cast reuniting for a ten-minute “episode” about Jack (Hayes)’s indecision in the 2016 election.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more on Will & Grace’s fall return, now set for a Thursday, September 28 premiere.
