UPDATE - 10:15 P.M. - While we can't quite take it as confirmation just yet, EatGeekPlay's Shawn Madden corroborates reports of Fox developing a TV series based on the 'X-Men' universe, albeit one that would focus on Peter David's 'X-Factor' and Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man):

Original article follows:

The superhero TV boom took off even more than expected in recent months, adding 'Supergirl' and 'Titans' series to the existing pantheon of 'Arrow,' 'The Flash,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' 'Daredevil,' 'Gotham' and 'Constantine,' and another major team may be joining the ranks. A new rumor suggests that the 'X-Men' universe will develop its own live-action TV series, but how might it fit into the franchise with 'Apocalypse' on the way?

Take this one with a mountain of salt for the moment, though BleedingCool claims from its sources that 20th Century Fox is in "deep development" with a potential live-action 'X-Men' TV series, though no other details are known, whether characters, or setting. It isn't very much to go on, true, but considering that BC were at least partially correct in announcing the 'Supergirl' TV series before its official CBS pickup, we're willing to consider this one vaguely plausible.

If nothing else, it certainly falls in line with comments we'd heard from writer Simon Kinberg in the past, namely that 20th Century Fox might follow Marvel's 'Agents' and 'Daredevil''s lead in plotting a TV future for the franchise. From April:

We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be, but when you look at S.H.I.E.L.D. to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with Daredevil and other shows on Netflix, it makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV. Because that’s it, every week you come back to the same characters different story, and in comic books every week it’s the same characters, different story.

I think what [Fox is] seeing now is with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that doesn’t cost $300 million every time you have to make a huge movie.

So with 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' 'Deadpool' and 'Fantastic Four' all gearing up with 20th Century Fox, how might any potential 'X-Men' TV series fit in? Well, considering that at least some of the major 'X-Men' names will return to the core team for 'Apocalypse,' we have to imagine that Fox would take an approach in line with 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' focusing on lesser-known or all-new characters in order to preserve at least some loose continuity with the cinematic universe.

The 'X-Men' franchise itself even lends well to the idea, considering the ever-changing roster of teammates and mutants associated with the mythology that could easily be made to fill the ranks without stepping on anyone's toes. Not to mention, considering that 'Days of Future Past' more or less rebooted the continuity of the 'X-Men' films as we knew them, any number of ideas could be put to use in tying a series to the films, presuming 20th Century Fox wanted to at all.

We'll keep an ear out for this one, considering how fast 'Supergirl' went from rumored possibility to CBS series commitment, but what do you think? If 20th Century Fox wanted to move forward with a potential live-action series for the 'X-Men' franchise, how would you like to see it set up? Should the series connect to the films, like 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'?
