The City of Grand Rapids is taking an interesting approach to get motorists to stop at crosswalks.

The city unveiled its new 3D crosswalk on Pokegama Avenue and 9th Street North on social media recently. The crosswalk is painted in a way to give the illusion that there might be an obstruction in the road, slowing drivers down.

I like the idea, but once you've been fooled by it, you most likely won't be fooled by it again. And, I can picture a driver that is SO stupid, or possibly an elderly person with not so great vision thinking that it's real and doing illegal u-turns to avoid it.

My favorite comment that someone left on the photo is, "Hey there’s a floating crosswalk above all the potholes now!" Ha! Now that's funny, and a good point, couldn't the money have been used better?
