TikTok is coming under fire from the government. They are worried that the Chinese-owned social media platform is a threat to national security.

The House passed legislation on Wednesday that could ban TikTok in The US unless they are sold from their Chinese parent company ByteDance. Over 170 million US citizens use the social media app.

Why Lawmakers Want A TikTok Ban

According to CNN, legislatures that voted in favor of the ban cite the concern that the Chinese government could use intelligence laws against the parent company to hand over data of US users. There also is concern that the app could be used to interfere with our democratic process.

The vote passed in the House 352-65. It's unclear what will happen when the bill gets to the Senate. We do know that if it does pass the Senate, President Joe Biden said he will sign the bill.

Once again, the House passed the bill, but it doesn't appear that the Senate is in a rush to vote on it, and it faces and uphill climb to get to President Joe Biden's desk. We'll wait and see how our Minnesota and Wisconsin Senators vote on it.
