The FDA has issued another recall this week involving food products. This week started with a Palmer Candy Company recall involving confections sold in Wisconsin. Now there's a separate recall involving food products sold in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

According to the FDA, Hy-Vee, Inc., is voluntarily issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution as the recalled products have the potential for Salmonella contamination.

The FDA notes that Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

Products Included In The Hy-Vee Recall

Hy-Vee is recalling two varieties of its Hy-Vee Cream Cheese Spread and its bulk-packaged Cookies & Cream Mix.

These products are manufactured at different Midwest third-party facilities and sold under HyVee’s private label and bulk packaging programs. The manufacturers of these products notified Hy-Vee of the potential issue and Hy-Vee decided to voluntarily recall these specific products out of an abundance of caution.

The affected products were distributed to Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee Drugstore, and Dollar Fresh Market locations – as well as Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh convenience stores – across the company’s eight-state region of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
