I remember when Take Five opened up at Marcus Theaters in Duluth. I thought it was pretty neat that you could take an adult beverage into the theater to enjoy while watching a movie. The first time I bought a beer was to watch the first Guardians Of The Galaxy. I nursed the beer and made it last for the first 15 minutes of the movie. That's a bummer. Turns out there is a hack I didn't know.

Here's why I didn't buy a cocktail or a drink at the movies after that. You get your drink, popcorn, and whatever else and find your seat. Then there is about 15-20 minutes of trailers. Then there's the opening of the Marcus President. Then, finally, the movie starts.

Have you ever finished half of your bucket of popcorn before the movie starts? This is kinda the same problem. I'm thirsty from munching on popcorn and it's so hard not to finish your beer before the movie even starts. Then you have to get up and get another one, or switch to water, or just sit there with dry mouth for the rest of the movie.

Last Saturday a group of us went to the Marcus Theaters in Downtown Duluth and met up at the Take Five bar before the movie. They asked if we should get a drink to go into the theater and I said I didn't want to just get one drink and then drink it before the movie even started. The bartender then offered me a solution I didn't realize was allowed!

She said you can take any of the canned beverages that are 12 ounces and buy two of them. Then they can pour them into one of their large glasses so you can get a 24-ounce beverage. We all cheered and got our 2 drinks! But, there's an important thing to remember.

No matter your age, they need to see your ID at the bar. I was pleasantly surprised when she asked for my ID, but then she had to follow it up with, "We have to ask everyone." You could have just said I looked 20 years younger than I am, but it's ok.

Keep in mind, they can't do this for mixed cocktails or 16-ounce drinks, but if you ask nicely you can get a couple of beers at the same time so that your beverage will last longer than the previews. Now if there was a way to stop having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie.
