Highway 37 Roundabout On Iron Range Near Duluth Reopens

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting drivers to a traffic control change that's occurred at a busy intersection along Highway 37.  Work crews have spend the summer constructing a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 37 and County Road 7, which has necessitated some closures, a lane diversion, and a detour.  Now - as work progresses - some of those closures are ending.

MNDOT is sharing that the east and west-bound traffic along Highway 37 is now fully moved back to what is now it's permanent route - through the newly-installed roundabout.  In other words, the lanes are no longer diverted to the south of where the original intersection (and the new roundabout) was.

In addition to the traffic pattern for Highway 37 returning to normal, access to County Road 7 to the north is also now available via the roundabout.  The route off of the roundabout to the north - and County Road 7 - is it's permanent configuration.

For the time being, access to the south from the roundabout - along County Road 7 - is still not available.  The detour that has been in place since the project began is still in place for drivers who need to use that route.  Once the connection to the roundabout is finished, that route will be open; MNDOT will alert drivers with a notification when that happens.

MNDOT also reminds drivers that the 35 MPH speed limit in that area continues, as well as 12-foot driving lanes.   The final parts of the roundabout are expected to be completed by the middle of October.
