It's one of those annual events that helps mark the changing season for many in the Northland. It also comes in handy as spring yard and general house cleanup starts to happen.

The City of Superior has announced the dates for it's Free Landfill Days for 2023. This annual event allows residents to bring items to the Superior Municipal Landfill free of charge - barring certain guidelines and restrictions.

Similar to what's happened in prior years, the free landfill event this year will happen on two consecutive Saturdays in April: April 22 and April 29. During both of those days, the landfill will be open for operation between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM.

Residents who own property in Superior are eligible to bring items to the landfill on those free event days.

During the event, residents can drop off the following items free of charge:

  • Household trash
  • Brush
  • Tires - limited to four per residence
  • Grass clippings and leaves

The following items will also be accepted at the landfill, but with the associated charged listed:

  • Mattresses
  • Box Springs

Cost for these items is $25 each if they are completely dry and fairly clean; $30 each if they are damp, wet, or heavily soiled.

Meanwhile, the following items will not be accepted at the landfill - during the free landfill days event or at any time:

  • Household hazardous waste
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Recyclables
  • Electronics
  • Appliances
  • Batteries
  • Motor oil

There are options available to homeowners for recycling or disposing of these items.  Look online at ci.superior.wi.us/landfill or call the Superior Municipal Landfill directly:  715-398-7222.

The Superior Municipal Landfill is located on Moccasin Mike Road, one and a half miles east of Highway 53 - near Wisconsin Point - at the southern entrance/exit to town.
