The inaugural Bloody Bash On The Hill happened over the weekend, taking 'Sunday Funday' to a whole new level!

The first of what will become an annual event (more on next year's event further down this page) saw a huge crowd of over 700 fans of the popular cocktail packing the outdoor area at Skyline Social & Games in Hermantown for a festive fundraiser for Never Surrender Inc., which raises money for the fight against ALS and those impacted by the disease.

Involved in this event were a number of Hermantown area bars competing for the votes of attendees in the categories of best looking and best tasting Bloody Mary. Competing in this year's event were 8 different bars:

  • The Social House
  • McKenzie's Bar & Grill
  • Foster's Sports Bar & Grill
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club
  • Blue Rock Grill
  • The Beacon Sports Bar & Grill
  • Skyline Social & Games

Accompanying these Bloody Marys were beverages from five different local craft beverage makers; Castle Danger Brewery, Bent Paddle Brewing, Duluth Cider, Earth Rider Brewing, and Blacklist Brewing Company.

After a few hours of delicious day drinking for a cause, the votes were tallied and the winners were announced in the two categories.

In the presentation, or "look" category, top honors went to Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club, who bested the pack in first impressions. The top three were as follows:

  1. Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club
  2. Skyline Social & Games
  3. The Beacon Sports Bar & Grill

In the taste category, McKenzie's Bar & Grill claimed the championship prize, narrowly beating out Pike Lake from full sweep in this year's event. Here were the top rankings:

  1. McKenzie's Bar & Grill
  2. Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club
  3. Skyline Social & Games

Following their victory, McKenzie's did a little well-earned social media victory lap, sharing some photos and gratitude for all of the people in attendance.

While Bloodys, beers, and live music from The Northwoods Band were on the surface of Sunday's happenings, the whole event was rooted in raising money for the fight against ALS. Between money made by ticket sales for the event, revenue donated by bar/food sales from Skyline Social & Games, and other aspects of the Bloody Bash On The Hill, $18,560 was raised for Never Surrender Inc. That is absolutely incredible!

Right off the top, I mentioned this was the first of what will be an annual event. We already have a date for next year's festivities!

If you had fun, or if you missed out on this year's Bloody Bash, mark your calendars - Sunday, August 6, 2023 will be the second annual Bloody Bash On The Hill!

We look forward to seeing you there next year, and a big thanks to all of the businesses and individuals that made this event possible, and to the over 700 people that attended this year! Cheers!
