A man on Reddit explained why he rejected a wedding gift from one of his friends.

"My fiancee and I are getting married next week. Today, a member of my groomsparty approached me and told me that they’re getting really into crystals and tarot. They’re mediating a lot and learning a lot about chakras. I’m not personally a big believer in that sort of thing, but I’m not the kind of person to discourage other people from exploring themselves and their spirituality," the man began.

"They then asked me if their wedding gift to me could be a crystal that they would charge with positive, reinforcing energy for the next week, and give it to us at the wedding. They said we could channel the positive energy and hold it when we're in a heated moment or need clarity/grounding. I was honest, and said that it wasn’t really our vibe, that we’re not as spiritual in that aspect of our lives, and that they really didn’t need to get us anything. They told me that they were glad I was honest, and that they would rather not spend a week focusing energy into this if we wouldn’t appreciate it. They left and I really felt like something was off, and that I hurt their feelings," he continued.

The man added that while he appreciates the idea behind the gift, he wishes that the friend would stick to their registry.

"They do know that we have a registry, and while gifts are welcome but not expected, we would prefer that gifts stick to the registry. We were very particular with the registry and make sure to include lots of low-budget items, so I don’t know if they just wanted to make their gift more personal, or if they’re on a budget (I know their financial situation pretty well and they’re not necessarily struggling)," he wrote.

"I can’t help but feel that I’m an a--hole for not accepting their gift proposal, I know they said that they’re glad I was honest, but I can’t help but feel as though I hurt their feelings, and approaching them about it could make it more emotional for them. Should I have said yes, knowing that we wouldn’t use the crystal?" he asked Reddit.

Users in the comments section sounded off.

"Although, it may have hurt your friend’s feelings a bit, you were not purposely unkind and you were honest," one person wrote.

"They asked, you politely declined, and also said they don't need to get you anything. You sound very considerate of your friend's feelings which is great, but it sounds like you're overthinking it," another commented.

"As a fellow anxiety disorder sufferer, I'm sure you're ... overthinking it," someone else shared.
